The Statue of Liberty
This one is a no-brainer. When arriving on your flight to New York you might be able to spot this architectural piece of art from the plane on a clear day. This landmark is not only New York’s symbol but it also symbolizes the beliefs of the whole country, freedom. A short story about it in case you don’t know, is that the statue was a gift from France to the Americans in 1886. It represents a robed woman figure that represents the Roman goddess of freedom, named Libertas. She is holding a torch and a tablet with handles on which the date of the American Declaration of Independence is inscribed. The statue gets around 3 millions visitors a year and it’s located in the Liberty Island. You need to get to Ellis Island first and a ferry will take you to your destination. Any New Yorker can point you out with directions in order to get there.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Met

Times Square
I’m sure you have seen it on New Year’s Eve every year. It’s is that place where they always drop light ball as the outgoing year expires. Time Square is basically a major commercial intersection located in Manhattan at the junction of 7th Ave and Broadway. It is also referred to as the Theatre District and consists of the blocks between 6th and 8th Avenues from east to west and W. 40th and W. 53rd from south to north. Probably the most iconic images of this site has to be the theatres of Broadway and the huge neon and LED signs. Times Square is the only location required by the city to comply with zoning ordinances requiring buildings to display advertisements with illuminated signs. The signs in Times Square are called spectaculars and the largest ones of all are called jumbotrons. These huge signs can be seen from the plane on your flight to New York City. One of the most famous sign might be Toshiba’s billboard directly under the NYE ball drop. Taking pictures here and showing them to your friends once you get back from vacation will make them jealous I bet you anything. of course it is better recommended that you go during the night time so you can appreciate the light screen better.
Empire State
The Empire State Building was the world’s tallest building for more than 40 years between 1931 to 1971. It was surpassed by the North Tower of the World Trade Center back in 1972. It is a 102 story skyscraper located in 350 Fifth Ave. After the tragic incidents in 2001 it became the tallest building in New York City once again. Currently it serves as office space building and for observation. The Empire State Building is the 3rd tallest skyscraper in the country only behind the Willis Tower and Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago. Its art deco design from times before World War 2 make the building unique from the rest around it. It raises 1453 ft from ground all the way to the pinnacle. It has an indoor observation deck on the 86th floor and is capped by an observatory at the 102nd floor. It is calculated that 21 thousand people approx work at the building every day. It is said that the building cost around $40 million to build back in 1929.
Central Park
This urban park opened to the general public back in 1857 and it is located in Manhattan. It is city owned and it is considered a National Historic Landmark. The park, which is the most visited in the United States, welcomes an average of 25 million visitors every year. Some of the main attractions are the natural scenery all around. Even though most of it appears to be natural looking, it has actually been mostly landscaped. There are several ponds and lakes, vast walking and miking tracks, two ice skating rings for winter time and one of those rinks is actually utilized as a swimming pool during summer time. In Central Park you will also find the Central Park Zoo, the Central Park Conservatory Garden, a very vast area of natural wood and a wildlife sanctuary. There is also an open door Theater called Delacorte and they host summer festivals there. If you prefer indoor attractions, you will also find the Swedish Cottage Marionette, an historic Carousel and the Belvedere Castle which hosts the nature center. Central Park is simply the best place to get in touch with nature and many other things in the heart of the Big Apple. It is a favorite spot either for locals or tourists from all over the world. This is another landmark you can’t miss when arriving on your flight to New York.
